Hi everyone:

Time to close the books on another year of shooting. Honestly, it’s been a good one — a great one, I think. Continue reading

[NOTE: THIS UPDATE WILL LOAD OK ON YOUR PHONE, BUT SEEMS TO LOOK BETTER ON A GOOD-OLD-FASHIONED COMPUTER BOX. YOU’VE BEEN WARNED]

Hi all:

So, it’s that time of year again, when we photojournalists begin to collectively navel-gaze a little, and share and discuss our favorite work from the past 12 months. Continue reading

JFK50

Hi all:

Thought I’d share a selection of work from my part in The Dallas Morning News‘ team coverage of the 50th-anniversary commemoration of John F. Kennedy’s assassination, which was held today in Dallas’ Dealey Plaza.

I was fortunate enough to be our pool photographer for this event. I say fortunate because it allowed me an opportunity to have access to some decent frames in what was a very crummy day, working conditions-wise. Very cold, and pretty wet throughout.

Kind of a weird day, too. There was a TON of media out at this event, and all over Dallas, especially in the last few days. Plenty of national media, but also a huge contingent of foreign press, which I wasn’t really expecting.

Suffice to say the event had a lot of eyeballs on it, and I had a good spot to get my work out there. Thanks to the marvels of social media, the above picture went all over the place,  pretty quickly after I shot it and set it on scene, probably only a minute or two after making it in the early morning. Apparently I was “trending” on Twitter … wonder if I get some sort of prize for that.

Anywho, please take a moment and look at the work of all my colleagues too — our staff photographers did, as usual, and amazing job with this story. There’s a slideshow up on the DMN’s site here.

And, below are 15 of my favorite frames from my time out at Dealey Plaza today, starting bright and early at 6:00 am CST. Long day. Phew!

Thanks for your time,
