"The doctor said I need a backeotomy …"
Hi gang:
Was asked to hunt for some features yesterday while I was out covering Byron Nelson golf tourney happenings for our Sports section.
It was actually for an N1A offer — read: front page — about how the Byron is trying to turn around its rather less-than-stellar record (especially after last year, when PGA pros complained about shoddy course conditions). But basically, the News folks didn’t care what I got — just find them a picture.
That’s always a swell position to be in. I don’t get to do it nearly as much as I’d like, so when I get the chance, I try to have fun.
Here’s what I came up with after an hour of walking the course …
… which came after a day of walking about a third of the course …
… which came on the heels of two full days of walking the complete course …
… which is almost four miles long …
… which effectively turned my feet into mashed potatoes …
… which didn’t help my strained back …
… which came after I slipped the second day on a patch of mossy water and tried to correct myself and not bust my ass or the 500mm lens and camera body slung over my shoulder …
… which also caused me to skin my knee and do the closest thing to “the splits” since I took Taekwondo in middle school …
… which led last night to the first warm bath I’ve take in years, thanks to the suggestion by Michelle (my additions of Advil and a glass of wine helped) …
Anyway, the photos.
Cheers …
Here we go again
Hi all:
Hope no one had a hard time getting here. As you can see, the URL for this blog changed, basically due to a huge accident I didn’t anticipate (I’ll explain that another day). Likewise, the old archives and such are down for the count. Now that I’m done with the re-launch of my “work site” (see it here), maybe I’ll have time to figure out how to get all those archived posts back up and running.
Till then, I’m going to use said re-launch as an opportunity to start posting again on this blog. I figure it’s worth another try. No pressure, no preconceived ideas about what I should do here. I’ll post what I want, when I want; hopefully in a more consistent manner than years past.
… wishing in one hand …
So anyway, a random photo for you all.

Yes, everything about this photo is a total, total accident. I was out at the Rangers game to shoot “stock content” (think file photos for later use) in addition to game-day action (there wasn’t much of that!). Basically, motor drive every player doing every little thing so Sports editors have “lots and lots of options” when they do features as the season goes on.
So, infielder Michael Young steps off the plate for a second, turns my way, tosses the bat around. Click, click, click, click. I don’t know what the odds are that, at 1/1600 of a second, I end up with an airborne bat, a mid-blink, and a random ball and hand.
Anything to keep me occupied. It’s gonna be a long, long season if the Rangers keep playing this way. Oy.
Cheers,
