FĂștbol

Turns out I lied in my previous post — I had a daily assignment last night and thought I’d share some images.

Between my stints at The Paris News and Columbia Tribune, I shot a ton of soccer. Boys and girls; mostly prep, some college.

Here in Dallas? I’ve maybe shot one soccer game in the last couple of years of being here. Plus, it was a different kind of shoot as I was there to focus on a couple of players. It was shot mostly on the sidelines, doc-type stuff … but I do remember shooting action for myself just to stay occupied during some lulls.

So, last night’s FC Dallas (our MLS team) game against the Columbus Crew was easily my first “real” match in more than two and-a-half years (the MU women’s soccer season runs during the fall semester). Needless to say I was rusty as hell, but it was a pretty good game with a dramatic finish.

After trailing 1-0 for the much of the game, Dallas scored two goals in the second, the game winner being a penalty shot that led too a nice little jubo.

Wasn’t a bad night at all — honestly, I was pretty lucky to be in the right place a few times over.

Here’s a selection of images. Can’t wait to get back out there — I’d forgotten how much fun the sport is to shoot and watch!

Just a Crazy Cloud

without comments

Hey all:

Much of the work I’ve been shooting lately has been for stuff to be published at a later date; so, no can show. Plus, I’m working on a small project that will have me “off the books” for a little bit. Suffice to say, not much daily work to share with you for a while.

So here’s something from all those crazy storms the other week. One night in particular, I mean it was just strange. Really dark, scary-looking clouds with a mix of semi-open sky. At dusk, with all the colors of that big Texas setting sun, it just created the oddest color palette. It was actually like burnt orange outside for a while. (Hook ‘Em Horns!)

I snapped this on the way home. Had meant to send it in to the office in case they updated the daily “Storm of the Century” slideshows, but never got around. Guess it finds a home here.

That’s all for now. Stay tuned for what I hope is a very fun and kind of cool update to come commemorating my two-year anniversary at the Morning News. In the great tradition of me mocking myself, it should not disappoint.

Till then …

Quick update …

without comments

Hey there, friends. Been meaning to post lately — sorry, been busy. Anyway, I’m chillin’ at the office waiting for some better light to help with a story I’m working on, so I have time. Here are a handful of images from the last couple of weeks. Random assortment — it has been random.

Cheers,

Dallas Independent School District board member Ron Price shows his frustration during an exchange between superintendent Michael Hinojosa and board member Carla Ranger during a public meeting May 28, 2009 at district headquarters in Dallas. Proposed budget cuts for DISD may have an impact on staffing levels at the district’s magnet school and learning centers.

At the conference it was announced that Joe Nieuwendyk, a former Stars player, will join the team this season as the new general manager, replacing former co-managers Brett Hull and Les Jackson. Tippett, who coached the Stars through six season, was let go by Nieuwendyk this week and replaced with Marc Crawford, formerly of the Los Angeles Kings.

Playin’ Footsie

without comments

Hi there:

Somebody asked me the other day if I was still doing that “silly foot thing.” By that, said person was describing my highly unoriginal habit of snapping photos of the tips of my feet (with or without shoes, in some cases) in front of things I see while out and about.

The answer is yes and no. I’d taken a break, not really running into much I thought made good “feet photos.” But over the last couple of months, like all I see are feet photos. Back on the saddle again …

So to get a quick update in, here are five selects from a folder chock full of these bad boys. Hopefully soon I’ll have enough to update the gallery on my site.

Cheers,
