Ernest Chavarria is overcome with emotion as he visits the grave of his father, Daniel Gonzalez, during the annual Memorial Day Ceremony at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in southwest Dallas, Texas. Chavarria, a resident of Oak Cliff, regularly visits his father's final resting place, where he often plays him music they enjoyed together through headphones of his portable music player, which he places against the tombstone. "He taught me values," says Chavarria of his father, who served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. "He was the smartest man I ever new. He made me the man that I am today."
